2003-2004 Long Island Sound Study Biennial Report

Authorized by Congress, the Long Island Sound Study (LISS) brings together federal, state, interstate, and local agencies, industry, universities, and the community to restore and protect Long Island Sound. The Sound is a vital waterway, an estuary where salt water from the ocean mixes with fresh water from rivers. It provides economic and recreational benefits to millions of people, while also providing natural habitats to more than 1,200 invertebrates, 170 species of fish, and dozens of species of migratory birds.
