This summer we printed a series of “Protect Our Wildlife” stickers that represent some of the 1,200 invertebrates, 170 species of fish, and dozens of species of migratory birds living in Long Island Sound. They need to be protected from human impacts, including plastic trash ending up in their habitats! This week we feature the Diamondback Terrapin. Did you know that these turtles live in the brackish waters of estuaries such as #LISound? They bury their eggs in sandy areas such as beaches and dunes. Their names comes from the diamond-shaped pattern on the top of their shells. Please protect these animals and #DontTrashLISound.
