Over time plastic bottles, straws, bags and other materials lose their shape underwater, but remain in the environment as microplastics where they can cause harm to animals who ingest them by blocking the digestive tracts and producing ulcers. Through a Long Island Sound Futures Fund grant Mike Willig and Chris perkins this summer are tracking their size shape and and quantify their presence at four Connecticut embayment.
