(STAMFORD, CT. April 30, 2024) — The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is inviting anyone with an interest in Long Island Sound to participate in engagement sessions and provide feedback on what they would like to see improved about the Sound. The first in-person sessions will take place during the day and evening in the Carousel Building at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, CT on May 8 from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to park in the upper lots and walk to the meeting building.

Sessions will allow attendees to voice their opinions and concerns about the Sound, which will be used to influence the revision of the 2025 Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). By sharing insights, members of the public can play an important role in addressing issues of clean water, thriving habitats and abundant wildlife, sustainable and resilient communities and public involvement and stewardship.

Additional in-person sessions are scheduled on May 22 in Suffolk County and May 28 in Queens, New York. There are also three virtual opportunities to provide feedback – May 11 from 1–2:30 p.m. and May 14 from 3–4:30 p.m. and 7–8:30 p.m. Meetings will include updates on progress made, breakout tabling sessions, a discussion with public comment, and an opportunity to share ideas for renaming the Long Island Sound Study program.

The Long Island Sound Study, a partnership of federal and state agencies working with local governments, communities, universities and industry, uses the CCMP as a blueprint to develop specific and measurable objectives to improve the Sound’s health and commit to action plans to achieve them. The CCMP was last revised in 2015.

You can register for sessions at LISstudy.net/plan. To contribute feedback or ask questions about the revision process, contact LISoundPlan2025@gmail.com or visit longislandsoundstudy.net.
