Teenagers from the “buildOn” program in Stamford, CT work with the Springdale Elementary Schoolyard Habitat Leadership Team to help with the woodland areas of their Schoolyard Habitat Project.

Springdale Elementary School is one of the pilot schools for the Schoolyard Habitat Program, a partnership project between the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Long Island Sound Study, and Audubon CT.  Stamford’s buildOn students were integral in helping to create the woodland trail, including working on heftier tasks needed to prep the habitat restoration area for Springdale’s elementary students. The elementary school students will plant native species, spruce up an outdoor classroom and create a pollinator habitat on their school grounds this spring.

More information on the Schoolyard Habitat Program can be found here http://www.fws.gov/cno/conservation/schoolyard.cfm
