Long Island Sound Component of the 2007 NY State Beach Cleanup

The American Littoral Society will coordinate the 2007 International Coastal Cleanup at beaches in New York on the Long Island Sound; the data will be compiled and strategies developed for combating marine pollution and to educate the public about floatable pollution and prevention.

Third Annual Family Day Celebrating National Estuaries Day

The Long Island Seaport and Eco Center will hold its 3rd annual Family Day attracting 500 celebrants to National Estuaries Day along the Port Jefferson waterfront promenade which fronts the Long Island Sound Estuary.

SoundWaters will conduct an outreach and education program to over 1,000 residents of three coastal communities featuring dock-side presentation on the ecology of Long Island Sound; and to three local media outlets to leverage the dock-side presentations into stories and articles.

Summer Youth Employment Program – Science on the River

Grantee: Riverfront Recapture

Project Area: Wethersfield Cove, Hartford, CT

Riverfront Recapture will work with inner-city youth from Hartford on projects that restore and monitor fisheries in the Connecticut River with a goal of introducing them to environmental science and to develop their job readiness skills.

National Estuary Day at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration

Project Area: Mystic, CT

Sea Research Foundation will host a National Estuary Day celebration focusing on increasing public awareness about the threats facing Long Island Sound and the abundance of its natural resources with a goal of increasing community connections with the Sound.
