Corals inhabits the Sound’s rocky or boulder reef underwater habitats, places which can be found throughout the Sound, including Baiting Hollow, off Long Island’s North Shore, and Penfield Reef, off Fairfield, CT. Corals are living colonies of individual cnidarians set within calcium carbonate shells. The coral pictured above is called a Northern Star Coral.
